Home-made oatmeal chocolate fridge cake

Currently being obsessed with cakes. XD

Simple and direct; Fridge cake means refrigerator cake. Have you guys ever heard of it? or anyone of you have eaten it before? Me? this is my first time hearing the name, let alone eating it. LOL. What to do? i'm not born in a family who loves bakery. *erhem..enough craps XD*

The good thing about this type of cake is, you don't need an oven to bake it. Fascinating, isn' t it? Thanks to my course rep, who suddenly mentioned about baking a durian fridge cake without using an oven and i should thank myself as well for being able to eavesdrop her conversation with Banana XD. All you need are:

  • Cooking chocolate ~ Available in Tesco brand Rm5 for 500G *Currently out of stock T_T (i substituted with other brand which is more expensive; Rm5 for 200g ><)
  • Cream cracker ~ Tesco brand for Rm 3 in 500g (any cracker you like)
  • Instant oatmeal ~ Tesco Brand less than rm7 for 800g
  • 1 t/b spoon of Honey (optional, based on your preference)
  • Tupperware/ any container will do
  • unused paper (size based on your container; you can overlap it with as many paper as you want) / wax paper
# Preparation time: 15-20 mins
# okay, ALL Tesco brand, can't help it because they are cheaper XD

1. Smash or crush cream crackers in a plastic bag into small crumbs. I just used my hand *Kung Fu fist lol
You can choose to smash the whole packet, or else you can leave some of it and eat them with Kopi O. Lol

2. Pour oatmeal and biscuits crumbs into a plate/bowl. You can pour into your container beforehand to make an assumption on the amount of the ingredients that you need. *To
ensure no wastage.

3. Place unused paper into your container so that it will be easier for you to remove your cake
later on and also to save your soap when washing your container. XD

3. Melt your chocolate with honey by steam them with your cooker together with constant
stirring. (i enjoyed the process of watching the chocolate melts slowly in a plate XD)*There are other methods, but so far, this is the best for me. =P

4. Pour melted chocolate into a bowl/ plate with your oatmeal and biscuits crumbs and mix
them well.

5. Pour everything into your container ; press and flatten them with your spoon or anything.

6. Keep into your fridge for at least 3-4 hours; the best is to leave it overnight.

7. Remove the cake from your container and cut them into a few pieces based on your own
preference and ready to serve! XD

99.9% will look like this XD

See, no butter, no flour, no eggs and no oven! Trust me, i just took one piece and it's really satisfying. The best part is, you don't feel like eating other things because you are just too full. If you don't prefer chocolate flavor, you can try other flavors. The main principle is (chehwah...Reminds me of lab report >< ) to melt your flavoring ingredient (cheese * a bit tricky , peanut butter and etc), mix it with biscuits crumbs and store them in fridge.

Did i mention that baking your cake in this way is healthier? Reason is, cooking chocolate contains less sugar and mainly made of cocoa which is high in antioxidant (green tea pun kalah), oatmeal, known for its high fiber; therefore it is fulfilling (don't have to worry you will overeat), and honey which is a natural fruit sugar and is absorbed quickly by your body compared to fructose; keeping blood sugar level fairly constant.

It is no doubt a good dessert for someone who has sweet tooth and afraid of gaining weight, and a cake lover but don't like the fuss to prepare so many ingredients. Also, it's a good alternative for someone who is tired of eating cakes which is made from flour (all of them have a typical taste; if you know what i mean).

Enjoy!!!
