FYP ~ What you feel?

I still remember when I discussed about FYP with my friends, I was nervous. I was just a freshman, back then. lol

Honestly, seemed like I’m the only one who was fretful.

Worrying about conducting experiment individually,

preparing your own tools and apparatus,

Solving the puzzle ALONE and everything you do it ALONE! *maybe I was afraid of the word, “ALONE”. LOL

Well, that was what I feared last time.

However, now that I have finished my practical work for FYP, I have a different view. It’s not that bad actually.

No doubt you will anxious at the beginning:

  • Getting some idea of your project title * hard to imagine the whole picture.
  • Having to list down the tools and apparatus you need * solve it quite easily since guidelines are provided. XD
  • Reading  and UNDERSTANDING journals
  • Planning your work
  • Learning new skills and mastering them

Okay, once all these solved, you start to have a strong grasp on your project. What worries you next is getting a good result for your specimen.

After having so many tryouts, you will start to have clear idea about your specimen’s “true potential” / properties.

Next, you got the tendency to compare your result with your members (if you are working in group).

  • wondering whether you are the only one getting weird result.
  • Wondering how good or bad your result is compared to your members. * yea, this is devious but don’t say you never feel it that way. Anyway, big deal! it’s a human nature. LOL No worries. XD

Once you know your result is not significant or novel as your teammates, you feel disappointed  and upset. Wondering why yours can’t be the same. Even your supervisor gives you the disheartened look and somehow indirectly adding “salt to your wound”.

Later, you started to accept the fact that, you can’t do anything to change your specimen properties. You got to learn to accept the truth and understand the meaning of doing research  and no result is still a result (simply means that your tested specimen does not exert the thing that you want).

  • it’s not only about getting good result, though this is the aim for every researcher.
  • It’s more to exploring, discovering and testing.* that’s where your time is being consumed.

Thus, don’t be  upset even you don’t get what you want.

Once your practical ended, you started to MISS it. You did enjoy the process no matter how. it’s frustrating, exhausted and challenging especially when without guidance at all. However, you enjoy the PROCESS actually.

Research is indeed FUN. XD
