Wash, Dry, Cut, Grind~Totally Exhausted

I can say that today is our official day of doing FYP as previously, we were just, washing, cleaning, autoclaving our tools and apparatus and as well as plant investigating. lol

The task seems easy, but it is not as simple as it sounds. Honestly, it fully depends on the type of plant that you are using. For instance, my cactus seems the easiest to be processed as it already contains some liquid extract of its own and the cutting part is not hard either. At first, i doubt it because cutting cactus seems tough for me. However, again, as the saying goes, do not judge a book by its cover. lol. The same goes for blending process. A few times of blending already enough to liquefy it.

As for Jason's ginger. A little more works have to be done in order to turn it into pulps, such as , cutting it into the smallest pieces as you can, blend it with blender and finally crush it with mortar and pestle. This little guy didn't even go for lunch.lol

As for Yan's Neem leaves, the drying process is the hardest of all and later the blending process come next. You see, all the leaves are small and they are in a huge quantity. A lot of work need to be done to dry the leaves. Unless, you are patient enough to air-dry it for half of the day with room temperature or if you are lucky enough, the Sun devotedly shines for 12 hours. Otherwise, you need a better method to do it. A method that can speed up the drying process. lol. As for the blending part, it's a bit tricky. You must make sure you didn't put in too much of leaves to blend it at a time and occasionally you need to stop blending for a while and stir the content. So that, all the leaves are fully blended.

As for Ben's Neem branches, the cutting is the hardest. As you named it, branches. You really need a special tool to cut it into pieces. As for drying, i think it's still acceptable. Not as hard as the leaves but using a tool to speed up the process will be ideal. As for the grinding part, if you use the correct apparatus, the process can be very fast!. The second guy who didn't go for lunch as well. ><

All in all, we do feel tired for today but the result of plant processing is satisfying. If you put them all together, you can see that, different plants will give you different form of extracts and colorss. For mine, is a greenish watery pulp, Jason's is a yellowish pulp, Yan's is a dark green leafy powder and Ben's is the most unique, where it is in pale yellow thread-like texture.

One very good news is, Ms Teo has decided to pay for all the costs for purchasing the plants with her OWN MONEY!!!! OMG!! i was speechless. She told us that, since we are only students, she pities us that we have to fork out our own money to pay for it and she afraid we might not be able to claim it and even if we are allowed to do so, the process will be extremely slow. You see, I really can't help but to call her once again Ms Teo, the Goddess of Plant investigators. However, we have to promise her to produce a good result for our FYP. XDXD
